Mary Poppins

The Mary Poppins musical is a magical theatrical adaptation that premiered in London's West End in 2004, before making its Broadway debut in 2006. Created through a collaborative effort between Disney Theatrical Productions and legendary theatre producer Cameron Mackintosh, the musical was crafted by an impressive team of theatrical talents. The book was written by Julian Fellowes (known for Downton Abbey), with new songs and additional music by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe, building upon the iconic Sherman Brothers songs from the original 1964 Disney film. The production was co-directed by Richard Eyre and Matthew Bourne, who also served as co-choreographer, ensuring a blend of theatrical innovation and magical storytelling. The musical ingeniously combines elements from P.L. Travers' original book series and Walt Disney's beloved film, creating a rich, multilayered stage experience that delights audiences of all ages. It ran on Broadway until 2013, closing after an impressive 2,619 performances, and has since toured internationally, becoming a beloved staple of musical theatre. The show won multiple awards and has been praised for its imaginative staging, memorable music, and ability to capture both the whimsy and the deeper emotional themes of the Mary Poppins story.

The Production Team

Here is some information about our wonderful production team that you'll get to work with.

Producer/Director: Ann R. Cluff

Ann currently serves as Co-President of Rexburg Community Theatre and continues her love affair with all things theatrical. She has performed on stage, has served as director, producer, vocal director, costume coordinator, props manager, has written shows, created “Showstoppers”, a children’s performing group, and is one of the three original founders of RCT. Ann and her husband Richard live in Rexburg, are the parents of four fantastic children and 15 “perfect” grandchildren.

Stage Manager: Corin Knowles

Born and raised in Rexburg, Idaho, Corin has been immersed in the world of technical theatre for 12 years. With two years of experience as a Stage Manager, they have successfully managed multiple productions, showcasing their organizational skills and passion for theatrical arts. When not working on stage, Corin enjoys a creative pursuit of writing stage adaptations of books and movies that have yet to be transformed for the theatre.

Orchestra Director: Timm Lyons

Born into a Chicago family with no musical background, Timm discovered his passion for music at a young age, teaching himself piano by 6 and drawing inspiration from comic books and John Williams' epic film scores. He pursued his musical dreams at BYU, earning a double major in Instrumental and Vocal Music Education while studying under renowned mentors like Mack Wilberg and Clynn Barrus. Throughout his journey, Timm has embraced music from multiple perspectives, performing in various roles from on-stage to backstage and in the orchestra pit.

Choreographer: Jared Koyle

Jared has lived in the greater Rexburg area since he was 11. His childhood was greatly impacted by artistic youth programs and since returning from his mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he has worked as a coach at Idaho ballroom academy. He is currently studying communications at BYU-Idaho.

Choreographer: Makaila Morris

Makaila, a native of Sugar City, Idaho, is set to graduate from Brigham Young University-Idaho in July with a BA in Dance Pedagogy. During her studies, she developed a deep appreciation for a wide range of dance styles and a passion for bringing movement to life on stage. Most recently, she directed and choreographed for BYU-I’s Collegiate Dancers Extravadance performance, Beyond Words.

Choreographer: Annabelle Hibbard Summers

Annabelle has been in theatre and dance her whole life, adding choreography to the mix in her college days. She is excited to work with the wonderful members of the community to bring to life the meaning of Mary Poppins.

Vocal Director: Holly Slack

Holly Slack has been involved with RCT for the past 14 years as an actress and vocal director. She holds a BA in Music from Idaho State University and currently teaches third grade. She also teaches private and group voice lessons which she has done for the past 30 years.

RCT Online Audition Rationale

By offering online auditions, we are giving you an opportunity to put your best foot forward and make a lasting impression with our casting team. It reduces audition anxiety because you’re recording your performance in your own controlled, comfortable space. It also gives you the flexibility to review and edit your recorded audition, receive constructive feedback from those you may choose to share it with, and provides you with several opportunities to redo your recordings until you’re happy with them prior to submitting.

Audition Information

Online auditions will be accepted for submission beginning February 22nd to March 14th, 2025. In person callbacks will be held on Saturday, March 22nd, 2025 from 9:00-12:00 Noon at the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) BY INVITATION ONLY.

Steps for applying online (and how to get ready):

Be familiar with the show
Determine which roles you would like to audition for. See the Audition Packet in the Helpful Links section to learn details about all available roles.
Choose an audition song
Choose a monologue that is 60-90 seconds in length
Watch and learn the audition choreography piece (link for videos in the Helpful links)
Self-record all three sections (audition song, monologue, choreography)
(Optional) Self-record extra video of extra talents (tumbling, gymnastics, etc)
Fill out application at audition link and submit videos

Rehearsal Dates: All rehearsals for Mary Poppins will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00-9:00 PM. Some Friday rehearsals will be added further into the schedule from 6:00-9:00 as well. Several Saturday rehearsals will be added in May and June from 9:00 AM to Noon, with dress rehearsals running until 2:00 PM. Our first rehearsal and information night for All Cast (parents are invited) and Production Tea Members will be held on Tuesday, March 25th from 6:00-9:00 PM at the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) building located at 480 W Second N, Rexburg, ID 83440. Rehearsal schedules will be given out two weeks at a time to all cast and production team members electronically.

Show Information

Performance Dates: June 27, 28, & 30, 2025 @ Madison High School. Performances will be at 7:00pm
