Director’s Note
The last time RCT performed Seussical was in 2012. That is when the love affair with this show began. It is just as magical today as it was back then. Not only is it incredibly colorful and entertaining, but there are so many great life lessons embodied in the production. Dr. Seuss was a master at teaching us through his whimsical way of writing. Here are just a few treasures:
Everyone needs to “THINK BIG”. From our opening number to all the mischief that ensues throughout JoJo’s experiences, we are constantly challenged to not only think NEW but to also think BIG.
We all need to think outside of ourselves. Sometimes we get so caught up in our own day to day lives that we fail to pay attention to those “small voices” around us that are crying out for help. They may be subtle voices that are not readily heard. They may be those voices who feel ignored, helpless, unwanted or loved, abandoned, depressed, lonely, forgotten, poor, misunderstood and so on. But there are always opportunities for all of us to show more kindness and love by latching onto opportunities to help serve those in need. We just need to do it!
Both Horton and Gertrude show us that it is by serving others and staying true to ourselves that we are at our best. We can’t really reach out to help and serve others if we are too wrapped up in ourselves. Gertrude’s reckless attempt to gain the attention of others by changing her outward appearance and looks consumed her to the point of rendering her unable to help anyone else when they really needed it. She ultimately learns that her value does not come from her looks but her heart.
The Cat in the Hat reminds us throughout the show (in his own very unique way) that we really do have only two choices in how we handle difficult times in life. We can either complain or see the good that is ever present all around us and be grateful. As the Cat would say, “Things could be worse!” Gratitude or being thankful is something we can ALL benefit from and need to do more of.
So hopefully, you will take those few life lessons to heart and embrace them.
Finally, I hope you all enjoy and grow to love “Seussical” as much as I do. The entire “Seussical” company has been such a joy to work with. A gigantic “THANK YOU” to each and every one of them for being willing to share their talents and spend some time growing and creating and leaving their imprint on the community!! WELL DONE!! I have pushed and pushed them to shine and boy do they ever!!
I have also been blessed to work with an incredible production team whom without none of what you are seeing tonight would be happening. So THANK YOU to Makayla, Trever, Holly, Annabelle, Rick, Makaila, Jordan, Tim, Cody, Teya, Seth, Corin, Diana, Cami, Nate and all those who have helped in any way to make “Seussical” become such a memorable production ! You are all THE BEST!
Enjoy the show!

Cast
KC Davis – The Cat in the Hat
KC Davis is thrilled to unleash a little organized chaos as The Cat in the Hat in his third production with RCT. Previous roles include Robertson Ay in Mary Poppins and the delightfully grumpy legend himself, Ebenezer Scrooge in A Christmas Carol. KC loves theatre for the chance to spark a little joy in others and to dive headfirst into the beautiful madness of a live performance. He would like to thank his wife, Bailey, for letting him make a fool of himself in front of all her friends.
Emery Nelson – Jojo
Elijah Southfield – Horton the Elephant
Brynn Nelson – Gertrude McFuzz
Allison Burbidge – Mayzie La Bird
Holly Slack – Sour Kangaroo
Aria Swayze – Roo Kangeroo

When she’s not hopping from rehearsal to rehearsal, she loves making friends, using her imagination, and having fun. One of her favorite parts of this adventure has been all the wonderful friends she’s made at RCT. She sends a big “Yopp!” to her castmates, family, and everyone who came to see the show.

Seth Daybell – Mr. Mayor
